Our mission is to match each dog with the loving forever family they deserve. Canadian Dachshund Rescue (Ontario) was founded in 2001 to support the overwhelming number of dachshunds experiencing neglect or facing euthanasia through no fault of their own. We therefore strive to rescue and rehome abandoned, neglected, and unwanted dachshunds and dachshund mixes.
The rescue is entirely governed and operated by volunteers and does not place dogs in a central shelter. All dachshunds are fostered in a loving home environment until they are successfully matched with their forever family. Since our inception, CDRO has successfully rehabilitated and rehomed almost 2,000 deserving dachshunds with many new dogs coming into care each year.
CDRO has evolved into a registered charity with a vast network of dedicated volunteers, veterinary partners, and animal welfare organizations across Ontario. We also collaborate with national and international organizations to fulfill our mission and achieve common goals.
