Rescue, foster, rehabilitate, re-home Chihuahuas in need

CCRT is Canada’s only national, Chihuahua rescue organization. In May 1999, after seeing the need for a breed specific rescue, the first founders officially formed Canadian Chihuahua Rescue and Transport as it exists today.  The CCRT is a network of volunteers working together to rescue, transport, care for and rehome these homeless, abandoned, neglected and/or abused Chihuahuas.

The dog rescue organization currently has Regional Coordinators in most Canadian provinces, and looks to continue its growth and representation across the country on an ongoing basis. CCRT is proud to have obtained national, charitable status in 2001.

Chihuahuas come into our care in a variety of ways, shelters and humane societies across Canada will contact us when they need our help. Owners will surrender their dogs to us should they no longer be able to care for them. Finally, if someone knows of a Chihuahua facing death, abandonment, or abuse, we encourage that person to notify the CCRT.

How to adopt a dog from CCRT

If you would like to make one of our rescue dogs a permanent part of your family, please view the dogs available for adoption on the CCRT Dogs page. You can fill out our convenient online adoption application form.  Your application will be directed to a Regional Coordinator in your area who will review it and follow up with you should a potential match be available. A home visit will be done to determine the suitability of your home for this specific dog. Your veterinarian and/or personal references will also be checked at this time. If all goes well, a “meet and greet” will be arranged so you and the foster dog can meet to ensure this is a great Match.

From there, your application, reference and home check as well as details of your “meet and greet” will be reviewed and if approved, the CCRT rescue dog will be placed in your home and become a permanent member of your family. You will be required to sign an adoption contract and provide the adoption fee.

Additional information about the process and adoption fees can be found here.

Supporting CCRT is easy…

One way to get involved is to apply to become a volunteer. As a CCRT volunteer, you will be involved in many different activities that could include fostering Chis, helping transport Chis and/or care packages, assisting with fundraising, processing applications and performing veterinary reference checks and home visits.

CCRT is run entirely by volunteers and is funded solely from donations and fundraising activities. If you would like to make a donation in support of our dog rescue efforts, please consider donating via Canada Helps or www.paypal.com

All funds go directly to the care of our rescue dogs. All CCRT work is done exclusively and entirely by volunteers who are not compensated.

Do you have room in your heart, but not in your home? Why not sponsor one of our dogs with a financial contribution that is directed exclusively to their care? You may sponsor a dog for any amount, there is no minimum and of course no maximum. You may also make monthly donations towards a particular dog.

CCRT also has a list of much sought after supplies on our web page www.ccrt.net
