The Mirror Our Pets Hold Up

Over the years of doing animal communication readings, it has become apparent, time and time again, that the connection with our pets runs deeper than we think. Yes, we love them fiercely and see them as our “babies” and companions, but they are also quietly doing a very important job in the background. These beautiful beings can reflect so much information to us about ourselves and the world around us.

Our pets are on a whole other level. They are pure nature and a direct connection with that nature that we don’t always have access to in this modern world of technology and busyness. They show us what it is to just sit and stare with no agenda. They don’t need music playing or anything in particular to keep their minds occupied. They simply live in the present moment. This is the very first way that they reflect to us. When you find yourself caught up in the stresses of life, worrying about trivialities and not taking time for yourself, take a look at your pet and notice the stillness. They are direct links to us, and what we feel, they feel. How many times have you noticed that when you are stressed and ungrounded, your pet either behaves in a hyper and reactive way or does the exact opposite and stares at you intently to help you refocus? I have experienced this myself after coming home from being in traffic and feeling rushed, and my cat started running around the house, hyper and jumping on things, when before that he was calm and even sleepy. Upon noticing this, I took a deep breath and became present, and he suddenly stopped and waited.

In a recent communication session with Dottie, the dog, she had this very interesting perspective to share about why she perceives that people seem nervous around her:

“She feels the nervousness of others around her. She says she can pick up on people who have loneliness in them, in their energy. But what that does to the person, she reflects it to them and they feel nervous, apprehensive—it’s like projection. They think they are afraid of her in some way because she’s a dog, but it’s not that—they’re facing their own emotions.”

This is very similar to feeling insecure around someone you’ve just met without any logical explanation. What else can it be but that the person is like a mirror, showing you the insecure emotions that are inside? Our pets do this too, and it is extremely helpful and life-changing if we can start to pay attention to how we are feeling, what we are thinking, and what we are doing right before our pet behaves in a certain way.

There is a saying that there are no bad breeds, only bad owners. In many animal communication sessions with dogs, the question has been asked about why their dog is so reactive to certain dogs and not others. In some cases, of course, this comes down to personality and other situations such as being an intact male or not, a history of being attacked by another dog, trauma, and other issues. However, there have been several instances when the dog being communicated with has explained that the other dog carries the tense energy of the person, or the negative energy of the person, and so they simply want to protect themselves and their own person from that energy. This may be hard to grasp if we only see animals as simple beings who “can’t” talk and who just eat, sleep, and play. But it goes much deeper than that. They are also here to show us—if we are willing to look and listen deeply—that we are all interconnected physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. What you feel, your pet feels, and your family feels, and your friends feel. And even the stranger you interact with on the street feels. Emotions are said to be bouncing off of us all the time as energy, and animals are an amazing conduit for showing us exactly what we are feeling and doing.

In many readings, the animal brings up a physical or health issue, such as pain in a shoulder or hip. And more often than not, the person exclaims, “How weird! I have that exact same issue.” Some even say that they notice their pet mimicking them in cases where they are limping or moving differently than normal. One person had a reading with his cat, and it was reported that there were issues with kidney stones. This was confirmed with tests. The person said that they were dealing with the pain of kidney stones that very quickly resolved when they normally didn’t. They feel what we feel, and they show us that something is going on and that we need to do something about it. In cases where people ask for healing or solutions for the issues that show up in their pet, it is important for the person to also treat the issue in themself, or the animal will continue to take it on to show it.

So, next time you notice your pet staring at you, stop and notice what you were just thinking or feeling. Were you caught up in worries about the future? Were you engaging in negative self-talk? Were you feeling sad? Happy? Nervous? And then notice how your pet is behaving. Is there a reflection? Or are they trying to show you the opposite to help you transmute what isn’t serving you? Animals are incredible teachers and role models. They are beautiful beings reflecting so much to us, but most importantly, they reflect the pure love we have in our hearts. That, I know to be true. And I thank them greatly for it!
