From a Good Boy to a Hero: Waldo Saves the Day

I’ve Always Known Waldo Was Special…

This weekend, I discovered he’s also a hero.

On Saturday, during our usual morning walk around the neighbourhood, I had a traumatic accident that could have been much worse if it weren’t for our good boy, Waldo.

I slipped on a small muddy hill. My body went one way, and my right foot didn’t. As I fell, I heard a loud crack and then saw my foot dangling awkwardly. I didn’t have my phone, so all I could do was lie there and scream for help.

Waldo, who was off-leash, immediately ran to me. He kissed my face as if to say, “I’ll be back,” and then took off. At first, I was terrified he might run into traffic. I kept looking for him while shouting for help, worried about his safety even in the middle of my own emergency.

In the distance, I saw Waldo tugging at a stranger’s pant leg. Then he started barking and led them in my direction. As the stranger got closer, Waldo dashed off again, disappearing behind a fence. Even as I lay there in pain, I couldn’t stop worrying: Where is my dog? Is he okay? Please don’t let him get hit by a car.

As I explained my situation to the stranger and asked them to call an ambulance and find my husband, Waldo reappeared. This time, he wasn’t alone. He had brought our landlord with him!

Waldo kissed my face again as if to say, “I’m here, and I’ve got this.” He had found help twice and returned to me each time.

For anyone who knows Waldo, they’ll tell you he’s a sweet, smart, well-trained, and positive little guy. Now, they’ll also know him as a hero.

Thank you, my boy. I’ve always been so proud and grateful to have you in our lives. After this, I don’t even have the words to describe how inspired I am by your loyal and brave spirit.
