Progressive Animal Welfare Services (PAWS) is dedicated to providing essential support to people and their beloved pets during challenging times. By subsidizing veterinary care costs, PAWS ensures that pets do not have to suffer or be separated from their families due to financial constraints. Additionally, PAWS assists individuals entering care facilities by subsidizing the required treatment for sheltering. The organization also collaborates with community agencies to promote pet-friendly environments for their clients.
PAWS is a 100% volunteer-run registered charity serving Southwestern Ontario and is soon expanding its services across Ontario.
PAWS Programs:
1. Supporting Families in Crisis:
PAWS understands that families facing financial constraints may be forced to make heartbreaking choices regarding their pets. By subsidizing veterinary care costs, PAWS enables pet owners to provide the necessary treatment and care for their animals, preventing unnecessary surrenders to shelters and reducing medically unnecessary euthanasia.
2. Promoting Preventive Care:
Prevention plays a crucial role in maintaining pet health. PAWS recognizes the importance of proactive measures such as spaying, neutering, and vaccinations. PAWS raises funds to subsidize the costs of these procedures, reducing overpopulation and preventing the spread of illnesses.
3. Supporting Individuals in Transition:
PAWS extends its support to individuals entering care facilities, ensuring their pets receive the necessary care and protection. This provides peace of mind to individuals going through transitional periods, knowing their beloved pets are being properly cared for until their return.
4. Building Pet-Friendly Communities:
PAWS collaborates with community agencies, offering tools and resources to promote pet-friendly environments and support their clients. By providing guidance and support, PAWS helps community agencies understand the significance of pets in people’s lives and how to accommodate them effectively.
Why People Need Help With Pet Care
Many individuals and families face challenging circumstances that make it difficult for them to provide proper care for their pets. Factors such as significant increases in the cost of living, mental or physical health issues, loss of job or reduced income, family crises, and critical home or car repairs can impact a person’s ability to care for their pets.
